A short walk west of Kyoto Station, the gateway to Kyoto, is a temple called Toji. Toji Temple was founded 1,200 years ago, in 824, during the mid-Heian period, by Kobo Daishi Kukai to build the central temple of the Shingon sect in Kyoto.

To-ji Temple houses many treasures, among which the five-storied pagoda has outstanding architectural beauty and is designated as an important cultural property.
There are many cherry trees planted in Toji Temple. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in the large garden, and the magnificent scenery makes the viewer feel comfortable.
